The Rye & District Angling Society has flourished for a century, uniting anglers who share a love for the waters that surround our town.
The society provides access to some of the best stretches of the Rivers Brede, Rother, and Tillingham, the Royal Military Canal and the White Kemp drain while nurturing the ecosystems within them.
Our legacy is one of accessible fishing, now and for future generations
Annual membership* in the society runs from June 1 to May 31 the following year. Society membership also includes membership in the
Rother Fishery Association and access to its waters.
* By kind agreement with the owner of the Iden Wood Fishery, junior society members may fish at Iden Wood Fishery free of charge (juniors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times).
Open to all members, the Society has a thriving Match fishing scene.
The league runs from June to December, and matches are fished on Sundays on waters throughout the local area.
Probably some of the best waters in the area
Nestled within the tranquil embrace of the Sussex countryside, the River Rother at Newbridge beckons anglers to fish any of the 20 swims on an enticing and accessible stretch of the river. All 20 match pegs have recently been meticulously upgraded, enhancing accessibility for all members.
For those with mobility challenges, two purpose-built disabled access pegs provide easy wheelchair entry to the river’s bounty. And fear not about parking—off-road spaces await in the layby.
The Rother at Iden runs deep in parts and is home to a wide variety of species including Bream, Carp, Chub, Tench, Roach, Eels, Bleak, Dace, Pike and Perch
The Tillingham runs through the heart of Rye and into the sea. A narrow river home to a wide variety of species including Bream, Carp, Chub, Tench, Roach, Eels, Bleak, Dace, Pike and Perch
With access to the sea close by some unusual species such as sea bass, mullet and flounders can unexpectedly appear alongside the more usual roach, rudd, tench, bream and carp etc
Located well off the beaten track, the Moat's remote location offers a few lucky anglers a highly enjoyable and peaceful day of fishing.
Found in the middle of the famous Romney Marsh, the White Kemp sewer is a rewarding water for the more intrepid angler.
Rye and District Angling Society is a proud member of The Rother Fishery Association, a ‘collective’ of local fishing clubs.
The RFA does not offer individual membership, but the good news is that Rye Society members automatically become RFA members and have access to their waters.
.
RFA venues offer everything for the river or canal angler—from small stream ‘roving’ water to match-suitable wide and deep venues.
