Brede River - Rye

Overview

A shallow river that hosts an unusually wide variety of species. The Brede fishes particularly well during the summer months. The depth of the Brede will vary depending on the lock gates being opened or closed

Bleak, Bream, Carp, Dace, Eels, Perch, Pike, Roach, Rudd, Tench, Trout (also Mullet, flounders and small sea bass during summer months).

The coarse fish close season is enforced from 15 March until 15 June inclusive.

Directions

From the Station approach, head towards Winchelsea on the A259. Turn left towards Rye Harbour and then turn right onto the unmade road immediately after the lock gate bridge.

Follow the track keeping left until you arrive at the entrance to the field (you will see a five bar gate in front of you, alongside the garden of the house next door).

BE AWARE- THERE ARE VERY OFTEN LARGE FLOCKS OF SHEEP IN THESE FIELDS!

Follow the country code and close all gates behind you. No dogs are permitted.

The river is accessible from the end of the houses on the South bank until just before Winchelsea. However, as a courtesy to the homeowners on the North Bank, anglers are requested to avoid fishing opposite the houses.
